State Team at MSAC

Blue Fin had its genesis more than thirty years ago when, in 1968, current Head Coach and Blue Fin owner Michelle Laidlaw joined the management team of the ‘Alan Crawford’ swimming business which was located at the Harold Holt Swim Centre.  When he retired in 1980 Michelle, who was then his Business Manager, sucessfully tendered for the business which became the Blue Fin Swim School.

Blue Fin moved to a permanent home in Bentleigh in 1989.  Bentleigh had a 15 metre pool where Learn to Swim lessons were held.  The Bentleigh venue was sold in 2008 and the business office moved to Port Melbourne.

Squad coaching was conducted at various locations over the years – the first eight years at Harold Holt Swim Centre; then at Korowa Anglican Girls School from 1986, and later at the Prahran Pool during the summer months.  In 1991 training commenced at the St Michael’s Grammar School pool and continues at this location.  Training is also carried out at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).

We are proud to say that the majority of our coaches and teachers were taught to swim through the Blue Fin Learn to Swim Program and a high percentage of them also swum competitively under the Blue Fin banner.  All of them are highly trained in, and committed to, technical excellence in swimming – the cornerstone of Blue Fin’s total swim program.
