2010 Victorian Metro All Junior Championships

Seven of our younger swimmers participated in this event which was held at MSAC on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 March. Our team was:

On Saturday the heats were swum and we achieved excellent results.  Five of our swimmers qualified for the finals on Sunday and again we had great results.

Victorian State Life Saving Championships

Not only do Blue Fin swimmers compete in traditional pool and open water competitions, they also compete in Life Saving competitions.  On 6 and 7 March, a group of our swimmers went to Lakes Entrance to compete in the state championships.

ascta (V) /Blue Fin Classic

Held on Saturday, 6 March, this event was co-organised by ascta and Blue Fin, with many Blue Fin families working hard to ensure a successful meet.  It was to be spread over three sessions.  Sessions 1 and 2 were completed but Session 3 was cancelled due to the severe storm that hit Melbourne in the afternoon.

Session 1 was a chance for swimmers to get national age and open qualifying times with the following swimmers representing Blue Fin:

Ben,  Luka, James and Joel teamed up to swim the relay event.

Session 2 – the All Junior Hit Outs, provided an opportunity for younger swimmers to get competition experience and improvements in their PB’s.  Most of our younger squad swimmers participated, some of them swimming all four strokes and some competing for the first time.  All performed very well.  Our team was:

2009 Victorian Open Water Championships

Congratulations to Sophie Welsh, Bec Sampson, Michelle Popovski, Ben Holland and Wai-Ming Leung  for their fantastic swims in this challenging event.

Michelle and Sophie came second and third in the 1 km swim, an outstanding performance.

Bec, Wai and Ben all completed the 5 km swim, a fantastic effort in this gruelling endurance race, which takes more than an hour to complete.

Ben put in an amazing swim coming second in his age group and qualifying for the 2010 National Open Water titles which will be held on 20 February at Nagambie Lakes, Victoria.

7-10 Encouragement Meet

After participating in the preliminary events, seven of our youngest swimmers made it to the finals of the 7-10 Encouragement Meet which was held at MSAC in October 2009.  Our swimmers were:

Ben came second in the 50 m Breaststroke and placed in the top ten in his other events.  Isabella placed in the top ten in two events.  Ben and Isabella were place getters in their mixed club relays.  All swimmers achieved excellent PB’s.
